Wednesday, August 29, 2012 Loparex's Dedication to Sustainability Loparex initiatives reducing waste streams and energy consumption
  • Landfill Free - Directing 99% of waste away from Landfills at our Hammond, Eden and Iowa City facilities. Our success implementing this program is mostly attributed to our efforts at separation of waste streams and developing strategic partnerships with recyclers. As a company we have gone from land filling upwards of 1,400,000 lbs. in mid of year 2010 to our current average in 2012 of 50,000 lbs. per month.
  • Properly disposing of hazardous waste – All of our hazardous waste is directed to certified hazardous waste treatment facilities.
  • Loparex is starting to track our greenhouse gas emissions and developing plans to reduce Energy. Teams are being formed in all plants to identify and implement energy reduction projects.
  • Promoting ways to reduce waste in our corporate facilities and offices. Office recycling is an important part of our program such as replacing Styrofoam cups and providing each employee with water bottles and coffee mugs, using rechargeable batteries, recycling light bulbs appropriately, having recycling bins for paper, plastic, and aluminum, as well as, providing each employee with a recycling bin at their desk.
  • SmartWay Transportation Certification– a partnership in which freight carriers and shippers commit to benchmark operations, track fuel consumption and improve performance annually.

Loparex management practices that show environmental commitment and establishment of new standards
  • Loparex has Green leaders which help us drive this process forward. Jim Miller from Hammond is our overall leader. Brian Alatalo from Iowa City and Scott Gallinger from Cary round out the leadership of our Green Journey. The Green Leaders document the best practices at each site and spread them throughout the organization. They also establish thorough measurements so that we can fully understand our progress and where we need to improve.

Loparex measurable environmental and economic benefits derived from practices
  • We have reduced the amount of landfill material by 1,000,000 lbs. per month results in monthly landfill cost savings of $65,000 per month or a cumulative total $1.5MM since June 2010 when we started the program.

Loparex qualified environmental management systems
